How to Make Potato Roses

Potato roses thinly sliced potatoes arranged and baked in a muffin tray to have the appearance of roses! They are the perfect way to dress up the presentation of a dish as well as fun way to eat potatoes. Perfect for your next dinner party, potluck, or even just for yourself, potato roses are easy and fun to make.
You can use any type of potato you already have on hand; however, Yukon gold is the ideal choice. You want your potato rose to stay cohesive and crispy so having a lower starch content will help. Yukon gold potatoes usually have a lower starch content than other potatoes, but it is still important to soak your potatoes to draw out as much starch as we can. First slice your potatoes into thin 1/8” slices and submerge them in water. If you have the Yukon gold potato, 15-20 minutes will be sufficient. If you have another variety of potato, soak for 30 minutes.
During this time, you can start preheating your oven (400F) and oiling your muffin tray. You can also create a butter mixture to add flavor to your potatoes. Ideas include adding rosemary, truffle, or garlic to create a butter mixture. Once the potatoes have soaked, cover the slices in the butter mixture and begin assembly! Take the larger slices and create the outer petals. Slow work inwards using progressively smaller slices of potato. At the very end, curl up a couple of small slices to act as the middle. For each rose, you can use your creative call to make them more presentable and to add variety between them, so they are not all exactly the same. Once you are done, bake for 30 minutes and voila! Enjoy your creation and show it off to your friends!
