In the previous blogs, we’ve explored the history of Valentine’s Day and how it came to be. What does Valentine’s Day look like now?
As mentioned before, Valentine’s Day was heavily religious from Pagan and Christian origins. From its boom in the 1800s to now, it has lost most of its religious implications and is a day that everyone associates with love at all stages. From new couples, to wedded partners, to life-long lovers, Valentine’s Day is also a celebration of love in the context of friendship in different parts of the world.
In 2019, Americans spent $20 billion on Valentine’s Day gifts with $2 billion on candy alone. On average, men spend $291 on Valentine’s Day while the average for ladies is $106. 145 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged yearly with teachers receiving the most (how cute!). Children receive the second most (maybe from their teachers in return). However, it’s not just people who receive Valentine’s Day gifts. Americans spend $750 million on Valentine’s Day gifts for their furry pet companions! For Valentine’s Day 2020, a whopping $6 billion was spend on jewelry as gifts. Lastly, 6 million couples are get engaged on Valentine’s Day. With all these stats, it’s clear that we love hard on Valentine’s Day in America.
